Start 2023 off Rosy with These Activities in Stellenbosch
Welcome the dawn of a new year surrounded by colour, feasts, and nature’s bounty in the Cape Winelands.
Happy 2023 from our boutique hotel in Stellenbosch! The dawn of a new year is a vibrant time for us at The Salene. As we muse over plans for our otherworldly luxury accommodation destination in the Cape Winelands, we’re taking inspiration from the rosy-fingered goddess of the dawn, Eos.
Associated with the brilliant dye of saffron as well as roses that embody the glowing hues of first light, Eos symbolises colourful and new beginnings. She is also the sister of our beloved moon goddess and namesake, Selene. Come with us as we take a leaf from the gods’ book and explore scintillating ways to usher in the coming year.
Ludwig’s Roses Winelands stocks over 100 varieties of the world’s favourite flower
Stop and smell the roses—literally
Less than 30 minutes from our luxury suites in the heart of the Devon Valley, you’ll find Ludwig’s Roses Winelands. This is the place to visit if you are looking for roses in the Western Cape, with Ludwig’s boasting a history of introducing novel species and educating burgeoning gardeners for over 50 years.
Aside from the colourful blooms, you’ll also find a lovely bistro stocking wines and beer, some general nurseries, and a well-known butchery and deli located on the Klein Joostenberg premises. Where better to take some time to reflect and enjoy the blossoming new year than amongst nature’s most intriguing flowers?
Delectable dining at Clos Malverne in the Devon Valley
Feast on the gods’ favourites in Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch boasts one of the finest culinary scenes in South Africa, if not the continent. If your New Year’s resolutions involve trying something new, expanding your palate, or simply enjoying more of the good things in life, this charming town and the surrounding Winelands promise to check the box.
We recommend taking in the splendour of our neighbouring farm, Clos Malverne, while dining on the wraparound balcony and sipping on one of their delicious wines, or feasting on the offerings of a chef that has helped shape the South African food scene at the nearby Jordan Restaurant. As a bonus, both restaurants often offer dishes featuring an Eos-approved favourite: golden-hued saffron.
Reconnect to your mind and body in nature’s spa
Unwind amongst the lush greenery of the Cape Winelands
There is little better to quiet the mind and re-energize the body than a rejuvenating stay in nature. The Salene’s location, nestled as it is amongst the top wine farms of Stellenbosch and boasting panoramic views of the Devon Valley, promises ample opportunities for rest and reflection. For those looking for added pampering, our in-house therapists provide spa treatments from the comfort of your suite.
